 | | | Bling Bling |
Bling bling is a hip hop term coined in the late 90’s by the rapper lil Wayne. Back in those days, Wayne and his crew Cash Money records made a living by recording rap songs all about how much money they had, what kind of flashy cars they own and how many honies they are getting. The tracks became almost like motivational tapes to hustlers worldwide. “Bling bling” is even listed in webster’s dictionary simply as gaudy jewelry. What Webster doesn’t know is that it’s not as simple as that. Bling jewelry isn’t just about showing off, it’s about hip hop culture as a whole and the struggle of everyday life. It’s a tribute to hip hop’s past.
Remember, most rappers and many of those in the hip hop community started off with humble beginnings, so cash was not always around to buy big expensive jewelry. These large pieces of over the top, diamond studded jewelry is not worn just for the sake of being gaudy. It’s meaning is more than that. It’s a symbol of overcoming struggle. It’s a trophy that that represents triumph. Big jewelry isn’t about being flashy, it’s about making a statement, a loud one. It’s about letting everyone know that you overcame obstacles and now you’re proud of it. Except you don’t have to go around screaming it out loud, you let the jewelry do the talking. Bling Bling. Enough said. That is why this type of jewelry is so popular to this day.
In the early days of hip hop, what you typically saw in music videos and magazine spreads were the large gold rope chains known as dookie ropes. These were worn by Run DMC and countless other 80s rap icons. That was hip hop jewelry back in those days, just larger versions of existing styles. In the 90s, hip hop expanded rapidly into a world wide craze and the money just kept rolling in. At that time gold jewelry wasn’t enough. Hip hop stars and executives wanted bigger and nicer jewelry. Diamonds and platinum became the new hotness. That’s when bling took over. Hip hop jewelry evolved into bling bling jewelry.
The word “bling” itself is said to have come from the sound that glistening jewelry would make. To find out if that’s true we’d have to ask the hip hop star Lil Wayne himself. However it does seem that if you stare at a piece of iced out jewelry, “bling” seems to fit the sound it would make if it were to make one. The shine of gemstones also symbolizes the rise to wealth of celebrities as well as everyday hustlers. When you wear jewelry that shines, that means that you were shining too.
Now we don’t recommend up and coming players and hustlers to go out and drop $5000 on bling. That’s not smart and that doesn’t do you any good in the long run. Luckily if you’re still on your way to big money, we got hip hop jewelry that’ll keep you looking good through that journey. Our bling jewelry is the best on the market. The higher end stuff looks so real not even jewelers can tell the difference just by looking at it. So take your game to the next level with some bling bling jewelry.
Bling bling
Bling bling may include thick gold necklaces, heavy pendants, and large, flashy diamond rings. Bling is also characterized by its intricate beadwork and large over-the-top sizes. Bling Pendants are typically diamond encrusted, and are made from either gold or platinum. Bling is not limited to pendants. Bling bling jewelry is available in everything you can think of: rings, necklaces, chains, bracelets and more.
There is no doubt that the broad appeal of hip-hop jewelry is style. It plays well on our human desire to be seen. When you have "bling-bling" it refers to obvious and appealing wealth even though these days you can get "iced out" for much less than you think. "Bling Bling" can be seen on celebrities when they appear in music videos, on the catwalk or on the red carpet but you will also see it on people from almost every walk of life. Did you know that bling bling jewelry started out as a male fashion statement? Well move over guys... females are now found to be the more avid buyers of bling bling jewelry.
