Swizz Beatz To Give 1M Each To Artists Who Launched Hip Hop
Swizz Beatz is looking to dole out some fat stacks to a few lucky artists such as Melle Mel and Sugar Hill Gang - in fact, he believes rappers should be paying homage and taxes to them as well.
Verzuz has been an undeniable hit for Swizz Beatz, especially during the Quarantine lockdown. His IG Live sessions boasting a million plus views pit two rappers against each other in a battle format, with some of their top hits playing in the background. There have been plenty of up and coming artists throughout the years, but Swizz Beatz and Timbaland are dedicated to the icons and legends of the past.
Taking some time with Joe Budden on Beatz Zone Radio, Swizz talked about his idea of paying taxes to the icons-
"We can't mix the hype with the reality of what this all started from," Swizz said. "I want to raise a million dollars for each icon that started hip hop. Kool Herc on down." Joe Budden voiced his agreement.
"The fact we're not paying taxes on who started hip hop shows we don't f*cking really love hip hop," Swizz continued on. "The fact we don't pay taxes as artists to those icons that paved the way, took the lower cut for the music that allow us to feed our family... F*ck the government. We need to be paying taxes to the creatives of hip hop that gave us freedom of speech to move forward. I'm going to go so hard with that."
