The Weeknd Donates $500K to BLM Charities
Thousands of people nationwide have been arrested as rioting and looting has exploded across the nation following George Floyd's murder. Thing is, may whom are arrested don't have the financial ability to make bail. Knowing this, The Weeknd (among others) has stepped forward, offering $500,000 to BLM movements, helping those incapable of posting bail for themselves.
The Weeknd encouraged the public to offer whatever they could, as no donation was too small. It's all going to a good cause.
Hours ahead of #BlackOut Tuesday, The Weeknd posted his message to Instagram- "Keep supporting our brothers and sisters out there risking everything to push for actual change for our black lives," he wrote. "Urging everyone with big pockets to give and give big and if you have less please give what you can even if it's a small amount. #blacklivesmatter."
As to how the funds are divided, Just Jared had the details: $200K went to Colin Kaepernick's Know Your Rights campaign, $200K went to Black Lives Matter Global Network and $100K was sent to the National Bail Out.
