Born in 1992, Kamaiyah Jamesha Johnson, or Kamaiyah for short, exploded onto the scene in 2015. Inspired by oldschool artists from the 90’s such as Missy Elliot, TLC and Aaliyah, Kamaiyah debut single “How Does It Feel” was ranked one of the year’s dopest tracks by Pitchfork and NPR.
This track would be the cornerstone of A Good Night In The Ghetto to critical acclaim of all whom heard it, and would end up netting her a position next to Drake on YG’s “Why You Always Hatin?” In 2016 alone, Kamaiyah performed both in Austin Texas’s massively popular South by Southwest and on the road with YG on his Fuck Donald Trump Tour as an opener- it’s clear that this up and coming Oakland rapper has the bars to impress, and her career right now looks lit.
High in the middle of the hustle, Kamaiyah has to look fresh when she’s out on tour- her own style brings out a mix of classic bling bling jewelry chains, and gold cut hip hop jewelry grillz. So real talk, Hip Hop Bling gets that fame doesn’t happen overnight and there’s a load of straight G’s hustlin’, even now- we’ve got the dope iced out jewelry chains and hip hop jewelry grillz to make sure you’re repping like Kamaiyah when you’re putting in work.
What’s next for Kamaiyah? Before releasing “Before I Wake” back in 2017, she netted one of XXL’s “2017 Freshman Class” 10 spots and starred besides Lebron James in a Sprite commercial in early 2018. We’ve got high hopes for Kamaiyah, and hope she keeps on putting out dope beats for the next age of rappers to the game.
